My kids love to snack. I am always trying to find different ways to incorporate whole foods in fun ways. These no-bake, no nuts oat balls were a hit! My three year old calls them cookies, they are that good!
With my son’s food allergies, it is hard sometimes finding snacks in the store that are free from all peanuts, tree, nuts, and dairy. We have found a few go-to’s that we do like to keep on hand, though like these Made Good Minis or these Enjoy Life Baked Chewy Bars. What I love about these oat balls is that they are so easy to make, and so easy to adjust to everyones dietary needs. We used SunButter in ours because of allergies, but you could use any nut or seed butter you prefer. Switch out the raisins for apricots, honey for agave, or add some mini chocolate chips. Really, the options are endless!
I also love that they are so easy to grab and take on the go. I prep them ahead of time, store them in the fridge, and they are ready to go whenever we are. They are perfect for those mornings we are running out the door and have no time to sit down for breakfast, or a great mid-day pick-me-up snack to have on hand. I can also pass these off as dessert in my house, and what’s better than a guilt-free dessert?!
To make these, all I had to do was dump all my ingredients in a food processor. I actually used my Ninja Kitchen System and it worked perfectly! I just blended all my ingredients, adjusted stickiness accordingly, and used a mini ice cream scooper to get the perfect sized balls.
You want to have a clumpy, sticky consistency or else your balls will crumble. If your mixture is too dry, add a couple tablespoons of water, honey, or seed/nut butter to make it more sticky. If it is to wet, just add in more dry ingredients.
Now, just roll your balls. I found that keeping my hands damp with water made the ball rolling process a little more manageable. After forming the balls I rolled them around in some hemp and chia seed for some added superfood nutrition and texture. I placed them in an airtight container, popped them in the fridge, and that was it! So easy, so good, and kid approved!
No Nuts Oat Balls
- 1 cup oats
- 2 tbsp flax seeds
- 8 pitted dates
- 3 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup Super Seedz Pumpkin Seeds
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 3 tbsps SunButter
- 1-2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1-2 tbsp water as needed
- 2-3 tbsps each of chia and hemp seeds on a plate for rolling
Scoop two to three tablespoons of chia and hemp seeds onto a plate, mix, and set aside. Place all ingredients into a food processor. Blend until you get a chunky sticky consistency. Add more sticky ingredients if to dry, add more dry ingredients if to wet. Scoop abut a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into balls. Roll into chia and hemp seed mixture. Place in an airtight container and store in the fridge until ready to eat!
